108 Minutes of Power
According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body. At The Yoga Loft on Fridays we honor 108 for 108 Minutes of fun lively Power Yoga. Power yoga is a faster paced flow class practiced in a comfortable, warm (not hot) room. A great workout for the entire body and excellent way to release the tensions from your day. Exploration of more backbends ,standing balances, hip openers, and arm balances will keep this class fresh, challenging, and fun.
This class will start with traditional Sun Salutations and then break down the Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga, rotating between standing sequence and the floor sequence each week. Closing sequence will be included each class. For more information on Ashtanga yoga and K. Pattabhi Jois go to ashtanga.com to learn more about this traditional yoga practice and the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.
For those who have never practiced yoga before or experienced students who are looking to work out and stretch without doing a more vigorous practice. This class will focus on breathing techniques, strengthening and lengthening, balancing, and introducing the student to poses they will see in more advanced classes. Great for all athletes, too!
This Basic/Foundational class is great for beginners and even those who have done yoga but have taken some time off or want to work on foundations of the practice. Students can focus on the poses without rushing and perform them in the safest manner to receive optimal benefits.
Beginner's Flow/Intro to Power
For those more experienced beginners who are ready to move through more of a flow format. Explore the foundations of the sun salutations. Students can modify up or down in a variety of poses. A fun and explorative practice. A nice way to introduce your mind and body to the Power Yoga practice. In this class you will have poses introduced and broken down to ensure proper alignment and breath is flowing. Poses will be held longer, allowing student to build more strength in certain muscle groups. Special focus on the core muscles used to support you in your yoga practice. Excellent preparation for the faster paced Power Yoga class. Recommended for newer students and those who would like a refresher class on the basics of Power Yoga.
Community classes are a Mixed Levels Flow class taught by the teachers in training or recently graduated teachers from the Yoga Loft teacher training program. 100% of the proceeds are given to a community charity or family in need. For more details click here.
This class will begin to take power yoga students to their next level. Still using a vinyasa format, the class will begin a deeper exploration of various hip openers, deeper backbends, inversions, breathing exercises, and advanced arm balances.
Mixed Levels Flow
During this vinyasa style class students will be able to do a variety of standing, seated, and balancing poses with a number of modifications. The student can chose what modifications best suit them that day-if they want to play with their edges or stay in their comfort zone, this class allows room for all levels. Intermediate poses will be introduced and students will be able to work at different stages of postures.

Vinyasa & Yin
This class begins with an energizing vinyasa flow to ignite the “agni” or “fire” within each yogi. We will end class with a 15-20 minute Yin sequence to restore the mind and body to a more relaxed state. Yin poses are held for a longer period of time, 3-5 minutes. These longer passive holds allows the deeper facia, connective tissue and tendons to release making way for increased flexibility and decreased tension.
This class is for all students of all levels. No previous experience necessary at all. You are supported by bolsters, blankets and blocks the whole class and do a very small number of poses that are held for about 10-15 minutes each. This practice is meant to calm down our central nervous system, reduce adrenal fatigue and bring a sense of clarity and well being that will last much beyond savasana !
Yin yoga is the perfect compliment for those who practice vigorous styles of exercise, and for individuals who suffer from limited range of mobility due to injury, aging or a sedentary work environment. With Yin yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes to access safe and positive ‘stress’ in the deep layers of connective tissue thru out the body.
While Yin yoga is a challenging practice, the physical and mental benefits are profound. Yin yoga will help to increase, maintain, and restore range of mobility in the joints. A Yin practice will support organ function and internal detoxification, as well as strengthen the skeletal system and maintain the integrity of the spine. Mentally, Yin yoga can be equally beneficial and deeply meditative by enabling us to break down negative patterns of thinking and to calm the central nervous system-with the goal of increasing mind, body awareness.
