YOGA CLASSES
108 Minutes of Power According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body. At The Yoga Loft on Fridays we honor 108 for 108 Minutes of fun lively Power Yoga. Power yoga is a faster paced flow class practiced in a comfortable, warm (not hot) room. A great workout for the entire body and excellent way to release the tensions from your day. Exploration of more backbends ,standing balances, hip openers, and arm balances will keep this class fresh, challenging, and fun. Ashtanga This class will start with traditional Sun Salutations and then break down the Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga, rotating between standing sequence and the floor sequence each week. Closing sequence will be included each class. For more information on Ashtanga yoga and K. Pattabhi Jois go to ashtanga.com to learn more about this traditional yoga practice and the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. In this class you will have poses introduced and broken down to ensure proper alignment and breath is flowing. Poses will be held longer, allowing student to build more strength in certain muscle groups. Special focus on the core muscles used to support you in your yoga practice. Vinyasa & Yin This class begins with an energizing vinyasa flow to ignite the “agni” or “fire” within each yogi. We will end class with a 15-20 minute Yin sequence to restore the mind and body to a more relaxed state. Yin poses are held for a longer period of time, 3-5 minutes. These longer passive holds allows the deeper facia, connective tissue and tendons to release making way for increased flexibility and decreased tension. Restorative Yoga This class is for all students of all levels. No previous experience necessary at all. You are supported by bolsters, blankets and blocks the whole class and do a very small number of poses that are held for about 10-15 minutes each. This practice is meant to calm down our central nervous system, reduce adrenal fatigue and bring a sense of clarity and well being that will last much beyond savasana ! Yin Yoga Yin yoga is the perfect compliment for those who practice vigorous styles of exercise, and for individuals who suffer from limited range of mobility due to injury, aging or a sedentary work environment. With Yin yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes to access safe and positive ‘stress’ in the deep layers of connective tissue thru out the body. While Yin yoga is a challenging practice, the physical and mental benefits are profound. Yin yoga will help to increase, maintain, and restore range of mobility in the joints. A Yin practice will support organ function and internal detoxification, as well as strengthen the skeletal system and maintain the integrity of the spine. Mentally, Yin yoga can be equally beneficial and deeply meditative by enabling us to break down negative patterns of thinking and to calm the central nervous system-with the goal of increasing mind, body awareness. |
